‘Melissa Caruso has taken things to an ENTIRELY new level of awesome’ Powder and Page
Across the border, the Witch Lords are preparing for war. But before an invasion of Raverra can begin, all seventeen Witch Lords must gather to agree a course of action. Lady Amalia Cornaro knows that this conclave might be her only chance to stifle the growing flames of war.
Amalia and her warlock Zaira must go behind enemy lines, using every ounce of wit and cunning they have to avert the coming conflict. If they fail, it will all come down to swords and fire.
The Defiant Heir continues the spellbinding tale of courtly intrigue and dangerous magic that began with Gemmell Award shortlisted debut The Tethered Mage.

The Tethered Mage is an excellent debut novel that set a high bar for its follow up, but The Defiant Heir takes the series to the next level in every way . . . I absolutely LOVED The Defiant Heir. It's extraordinarily fun with wonderful characters and intriguing mysteries that kept me eagerly anticipating what would happen next . . . I can hardly contain my excitement for the third installment
Centered around a fierce and heroic set of characters, with intricate world-building and a quick pace, Caruso has really hit her fantasy stride with The Defiant Heir
I love this book and series . . . refreshing and lively fantasy that has characters that I just can't get enough of
I've been dying to get my hands on The Defiant Heir . . . My expectations were extremely high-and the book went in a totally different direction from what I expected. In the best possible way. . . I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this series
Melissa Caruso has taken things to an ENTIRELY new level of awesome with The Defiant Heir . . . I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book
I loved The Defiant Heir: wholeheartedly and without reservation . . . This is a fast, tight, brilliantly entertaining book, atmospheric and full of tension and intrigue. I adored it.
This is a series worth your time . . . The Defiant Heir takes everything that was good about its predecessor and adds depth and weight to make it a more serious and compelling read
If I thought I adored the first then I was wrong, because this is a whole new level of love . . . EVERYTHING was even better than before. Which is supremely impressive because Book One was pie and cake and ice cream in one. So this book is that plus cherries and sprinkles
This is the sort of fantasy adventure that ticks all the boxes for me . . . I love losing myself in Caruso's world . . . I can't wait for the final book in the trilogy
Freaking AWESOME . . . it's one of the best first novels in a brand new high fantasy series that I've read in ages . . Absolutely recommended and on my shortlist for favorite books so far in 2017
A satisfyingly action-packed and bittersweet follow-up which promises more to come
I love this book and series. It is a refreshing and lively fantasy that has characters that I just can't get enough of . . . I wish I had the next book in hand so I could just go straight into it
A dashing, compelling and exciting story, blending magic, assassination, conspiracy and diplomacy . . . I'll make no bones about it, I loved this book
